FAQs
To figure out what size rug you need, it can be helpful to measure your space for a minimum and maximum length and width. One of the most common design mistakes is buying a rug that is too small for a room. As a rule of thumb, the edge of your rug should be 1-2 ft. from the room’s perimeter. For a living room, your rug should be large enough that the front legs of the furniture are on it (or all four legs). Before you visit us, sketch the shape of your room along with room dimensions and draw where your furniture is positioned. You can also take a picture of your space or bring in fabric samples to share with our design team so we can better advise you.
One of the benefits of scheduling our in home experience is that it allows our team to provide ideal sizing advice while we are in the space.
Yep! Our Check Out program allows you to take rugs and samples of all sizes home for up to 48 hours to make sure they are a perfect fit for your space.
Wool is an incredibly resilient and long lasting material, as long as it is cared for properly. The more you love and care for your rugs, the more they will love you back.
Spot Cleaning: Promptly attend to spills by blotting them with a clean wet cloth or paper towel to lift the initial contents. Continue to use blotting motions whenever possible with a mild cleaning agent - our favorite wool friendly cleaning solution is 50% distilled white vinegar and 50% water (keep a spray bottle on hand, you will thank yourself later). Some of the more stubborn stains can take a handful of applications over a 24 hour period, but the majority of stuff will come out if you allow the wool to work its magic. It is important to avoid using any harsh chemical based cleaning agents on rugs made from natural fibers as it can damage the fiber permanently. Rugs made from synthetic fibers (polys) are typically okay to be cleaned using any spot cleaner of your choice.
Regular Vacuuming: Vacuum your rugs on a low / gentle setting regularly to prevent dirt from settling deep into the fibers. Use a vacuum cleaner without a brush attachment (or turn off the rotation of the brush - often times this is the hardwood floor setting). This will minimize the stress put on the fibers over the lifetime of the rug. A couple of times a year, it can be helpful to roll your rug up and vacuum underneath the rug and pad. If you use a house cleaning service, it is important to make sure they are aware of how to care for your rugs properly too.
Rotate Periodically: If your rug is in an area with particularly high traffic area, it can be helpful to rotate your rug occasionally.
Professional Cleaning: Every 3-5 years, consider professional cleaning to remove deep-seated dirt and provide a "reset" for your rug. Make sure it is someone that specializes in cleaning handmade, natural fibered rugs. We work with a wonderful company here locally - you can drop it off to us anytime during our open store hours. Absolutely. Area rugs are a great way to add layering, update a room, or cover up older carpet that you may not love. We have a pad specifically designed for area rugs that are going on top of carpet to prevent them from bunching or sliding.
